A HOMELESS man tried to steal copper radiator pipes from a Dudley Council-owned flat in Halesowen the day after his girlfriend moved out, a court heard.

Daniel Witherford, aged 21, broke into the ground floor flat in Wychbury Court with an accomplice, but a neighbour rang the police and when officers arrived the pair ran off.

Witherford, of no fixed address, was arrested later and pleaded guilty at Dudley Magistrates’ Court to breaking into the property with intent to steal.

He also admitted attempting steal a Play Station and causing criminal damage to a fire door at Tesco, along with failing to surrender to bail.

The court sentenced him to a total of 18 weeks in prison.
