FORMER Rowley Regis MP Lord Peter Archer of Sandwe;; has died aged 85.

The former MP's death was announced in the House of Lords by Lord Speaker Baroness D'Souza today.

He was elected MP for Rowley Regis and Tipton in 1966 and then was switched to the Warley West seat in 1974 where he represented until 1992 when he was made a Labour Peer.

The former barrister had a sterling Parliamentary career and had been solicitor general from 1974 to 1979.

He was also picked in 2009 to lead an inquiry into HIV and other diseases being passed on by blood doners in the NHS.
