£10,000 windfall for Sandwell Arts Festival

SANDWELL Arts Festival has netted a £10,000 lottery windfall towards the cost of the event which will be held in Oldbury and Rowley Regis as well as the borough’s other four towns.

Arts Council England has awarded the grant to Sandwell Council which is organising the festival from August 11 to 19.

The third annual event will include street performances, community events, workshops for individuals and a new commission of a procession telling the story of the mythical Sandwell Giant.

In previous years it has attracted around 15,000 visitors.

Cabinet member for leisure services Councillor Linda Hortons said: ”We and our partners are grateful for this lottery grant as it will allow us to put on the best festival yet. It also encourages additional grants from other sources.”

She added the mainly free programme will reflect Sandwell’s cultural diversity and involve local people.
