AN OLDBURY rock band are preparing to play a Cradley Heath rock festival this weekend after a ringing endorsement from The Libertines.
Holocene, formerly known as Alpine are joining other talented bands at the Opportunity Rocks festival at Haden Hill House on Sunday.
Bishan Davies, lead vocalist from Holocene, said: “We can not wait to play on Sunday and it should be a great gig.
“Things are going great for us and we are still over the moon at getting encouragement and being told to keep up the good work from Carl Barat and Gary Powell on Twitter.” Teenagers Bishan Davies, Marcello Sanzari, Aaron Barnett-Bass and Ben Campbell have already released a single All Around and have several gigs lined up after Opportunity Rocks.
Sunday will be a busy day for the band as after performing at Haden Hill at 2pm they are hotfooting it down to the Picnic in the Park in Bearwood for a set at 5.15pm.
Other acts confirmed to play at Opportunity Rocks include The Ruby Murrays, Fading Lights, Shinkickers and Esther Turner.
Councillor Linda Horton, Sandwell Council's cabinet member for leisure services, said: “The park is a wonderful setting for what should be a great day out.
"There will be loads of local young people playing great rock, indie and pop wanting to get their bands or themselves noticed.”
Other attractions at the festival include refreshments, a bungee run, a vintage clothes sale inside Haden Hill House, and spray tattoos and RockStar Guitars, from Blackheath, will also be holding demonstrations.
Opportunity Rocks is being held between 11am and 6pm in the grounds of Haden Hill House on Sunday and admission is free.
