RESIDENTS at a Dudley care home were able to get their hands on a real Olympic torch.

Himley Mills Care Home threw an Olympic-themed event and welcomed torch bearer, Andrew Steel, who did a lap of honour with the torch and sports fan Rebecca Eaton, who is a resident in the home’s Kingswood House for the young disabled.

Mr Steel spent the afternoon with residents at the Bupa care home, joining in their inter-house Olympic competitions to win mock gold medals, accompanied by a local entertainer playing Chariots of Fire.

Home manager, Elizabeth Whitwell, said: “We had a fantastic day and all the residents had a great time, getting involved in our version of the Olympic Games. We are really grateful to Andrew who spent so much time with our residents, giving them the chance to see and touch the torch on the day. I don’t think they could believe it was the real thing!”
