Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge is celebrating after public votes helped to secure it a share of £1,000 donated by the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.
The Stourbridge branch of Yorkshire Building Society held a Charity Choices initiative by picking three local good causes to receive a cash boost.
Customers and members of the public were invited to vote for their favourite and the number of votes received by each charity determined their share of each branch’s £1,000 donation.
The winning good causes in Stourbridge were:
• £500 - Mary Stevens Hospice – offering specialist care for people living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, as well as providing dedicated support for their families and carers.
• £300 - Midlands Air Ambulance – providing first class life saving care to patients across the Midlands.
• £200 - The Phoenix Centre – a self-contained centre which runs a pre-school and playgroup for children with an additional need, development delay or disability who live within the borough of Dudley.
Vicki Rowles, Head of Fundraising at Mary Stevens Hospice, said: “We rely on donations and fundraising like this to maintain the much-needed care we provide so I would like to thank everyone who voted.
“It is a very kind gesture of Yorkshire Building Society to have picked us to take part in their Charity Choices initiative and the money donated will be put to great use.”
Josh Watchorn, a Customer Consultant at Yorkshire Building Society’s Stourbridge branch, said: “The charities we chose to support provide invaluable services to the Stourbridge and wider community. I hope these donations will make a real difference.
“We felt it was important that the decision on the amount of money received as part of Charity Choices was placed in the hands of local people so I’d like to thank everyone who voted.”
Society members and customers in the Black Country voted for a total of nine good causes through Charity Choices, which was also run out of the Yorkshire’s branches in Wolverhampton and Halesowen.
