A STOURBRIDGE man has been jailed for 40 months for carrying out a string of sex attacks on a schoolboy in the 90s.

John Birchall, aged 66, admitted seven charges of indecent assault and was told by Judge Martin Walsh that the attacks had caused great suffering to his victim.

He said Birchall, of Heath Farm Road, Norton, had expressed his relief when he was finally arrested by police and added: "The victim has continued to struggle with the consequences of the abuse."

The judge told Birchall, who was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, it was to his credit he had been immediately honest with the police.

He said Birchall had fully accepted his guilt for the offences, which were committed between 1992 and 1997 and it was clear he was full of remorse for his actions.

Birchall was also banned by the judge at Wolverhampton Crown Court from ever working with children.
