PUPILS and staff at a Kidderminster school held a pink own clothes day and a charity bake-off in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

St Ambrose’s Catholic Primary School raised £625.50 from its fundraising efforts which will be given to the charity to help its aim of developing new treatments and preventing cancer.

Ian Clubley, headteacher, said: “We really looked forward to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer bake-off and we are delighted to have raised this amount for such a worthy cause.

“I would like to thank everyone in our school community for their support and fundraising efforts, including parishioners and parents that came and judged the competition.

“The cakes looked amazing and they tasted rather good too.”

Every year, about 50,000 women in the UK receive the news that they have breast cancer, and over the next six years, the charity aims to double its investment in research so that more lives can be saved.

Rachel Hodson, community fundraising executive officer at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said: “Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, killing 1,000 women each month.

“This is why we’re determined to stop this disease taking the women we love, and we believe research holds the key.

“However, we cannot continue to fund our crucial work without the tremendous support.”
