A WOMAN has been left “angry” after council bin lorries drove over a grass verge outside her house.

Karen King, of Clarks Hills Rise, Evesham, has complained about the grass being churned up with tyre marks for a number of years and has now “had enough” of inaction over the problem.

She has labelled the matter “ridiculous” and is annoyed the vehicles are creating an “unsightly mess” in her neighbourhood.

An officer at Wychavon District Council however stated the local authority is “exploring a long-term solution”.

Mrs King, who has lived in the area for 14 years, said: “It is a joke and I don’t know what else to do other than to expose them.

“There is no excuse and, even if cars are parked in the road, the lorries could avoid driving over the grass verge through a simple three-point turn.

“It is making the local area look horrible and it is with a feeling of despair that I have contacted the press.

“I have tried my best over the years to resolve this problem but without success.”

The 52-year-old added that her neighbours were similarly frustrated by the bin lorry actions.

She explained that on a number of occasions she had re-seeded and cut the grass verge, which is owned by the council, only for it to ruined again by the bin lorries.

Waste collections take place in Clarks Hill Rise every Wednesday.

Mark Edwards, waste management officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “We are aware of this problem and the concerns of residents in the road and we have spoken to our contractors and the drivers to try and ensure that this kind of thing doesn’t happen.

“Unfortunately the road is very narrow and parked vehicles have in the past prevented the lorry from safely turning around any other way, as they did on this occasion.

“As there are too many properties to service with a smaller refuse vehicle we will be speaking with county council highways to explore a long-term solution to this problem.”
