MALVERN Town Council marked St George's day with a flag-raising ceremony in the grounds of Malvern Library.
The ceremony, hosted by Mayor Julian Roskams and led by Rev John Barr of Malvern Priory, attracted dozens of spectators on Thursday, April 23.
The ceremony was opened by the Appleyard Morris Dancers, whose performance included a rousing chorus of the British Grenadiers.
Buglers from the Malvern Boys’ Brigade performed a fanfare, and Rev Barr led the assembled councillors, residents, and representatives of local organisations in prayers for St George and the nation, before singing Jerusalem.
The event concluded with Cllr Roskams raising the flag of St George, while Cllr Cynthia Palmer delivered a reading from William Shakespeare’s Richard II.
The mayor, councillors and officers of Malvern Town Council wish to thank all those who joined the ceremony - some from as far afield as Washington DC.
