THE spirits of Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers will be alive and well in Churchdown this May, in the form of St John’s Players latest production – The Ladykillers. The classic and much loved 1950s Ealing comedy is being brought thrillingly to life from Tuesday 12 to Saturday May 162015.

Posing as amateur musicians, Professor Marcus and his gang of ne’er do wells, Major Courtney, Harry, Louis and One-Round rent a room in the lopsided house of sweet but strict Mrs Wilberforce, as the perfect hideout in which to mastermind a robbery. They hit upon the idea of involving the dear old lady in their dastardly scheme to thwart the police and make a clean getaway. However they don’t reckon with the indomitable Mrs W and her extraordinary parrot General Gordon. Comic chaos ensues in a show described by the Daily Express as ‘a joy from start to finish’.

The film has been brilliantly adapted for the stage by Graham Linehan, creator of modern day comedy classics such as Father Ted, The IT Crowd and Black Books. The show enjoyed a sell out West End run and national tour and St John’s Players are delighted to be one of the first amateur companies to bring it to life.

Performances 7.30pm Tue 12th-Sat 16th May at St John’s Church Hall, St John's, Churchdown. Tickets £8 Concession £7, available from 01452 857371
