CHEFS from Bewdley’s pubs, cafes and restaurants will be competing to create a prize-winning salad on Bank Holiday Monday.

The unique event has become a popular feature at the Discover Bewdley Spring Fair and attracts a large audience, hungry to see what Bewdley’s finest culinary artists can come up with.

The Salad Challenge will take place on the Green Theatre stage in Jubilee Gardens in the town centre. Chefs will have three minutes to choose from a range of ingredients supplied by Bewdley Farm Shop and the Deli @ Bewdley and then just 10 minutes to create a prize-winning tasty and attractive salad.

Chefs from the Hop Pole, the Mug House, Pomodoro and the Little Pack Horse will be competing in the challenge.

Chris Griffin, who has organised the challenge, said: “It’s a great way of showing just how good, healthy and inexpensive great local food can be.”

Chris Thomason, from the Deli @ Bewdley, said: “I’m really pleased to be involved in championing good quality ingredients available in Bewdley.”

Judging this year’s competition will be the Mayor of Bewdley, Councillor Derek Killingworth, Neville Farmer and Emma Passey of Paisley Flour Catering.

The winning chef will be presented with the Salad Challenge trophy for the year.

This year Discover Bewdley is celebrating its 10th Spring Fair with a record number of events and attractions across the May Day Bank Holiday weekend on Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th May.
