THE Rector of Kidderminster Ismere has been made an honorary canon in recognition of her dedicated church work.

Rosemary Lawley was given the honour at Worcester Cathedral along with Dudley vicar Reverend Andrew Wickens and Reverend John Barr, vicar of Great Malvern.

Mrs Lawley was joined by family and friends at a service of celebration and dedication to mark the occasion.

She said: “When I received the invitation from Bishop John to be an Honorary Canon of Worcester Cathedral, I was both amazed and surprised that I would even be considered for such an honour and privilege.

“Since moving from the Lichfield Diocese to Worcester some eight and a half years ago, my ministry first of all as a Team Vicar and Industrial Chaplain with ‘Faith at Work’ in Worcestershire, then as Team Rector of the newly formed Kidderminster Ismere Parish, Workplace Chaplain and Associate Methodist Presbyter, has been at the same time varied, challenging and fulfilling.

“I feel very excited now to have been given this wonderful opportunity to be part of the life of the Cathedral as Honorary Canon and Ambassador and pray that God will continue to bless John, Andrew and me as we begin this new chapter in our ministry in his service.”

Bishop John said: “These three people have given and continue to give outstanding service to the church and wider society as clergy in the Diocese of Worcester.

“I’m delighted to appoint them Canons of Worcester and know they will be great ambassadors for the Cathedral in the Diocese and vice versa.”
