A ONESIE-wearing man, disguised with a spiderman mask, stood on the roof of a children’s centre for four hours throwing tiles.

Magistrates heard the stand-off came after a bin man went on a ‘spree’ smashing two car windows and demanding drugs from a homeowner in the Newton Farm area of Hereford.

Father-of-three James Hall, 29, of Merestone Road, Redhill, Hereford, this week admitted three counts of criminal damage, possessing a class B drug and common assault.

The court heard his actions caused £3,000 worth of damage to the roof of Green Croft Children’s Centre.

Lesley Ashton, prosecuting, said that the spate of offences started at 7.10am on October 11.

The first incident happened when the defendant attended an address in Kinnersley Close.

Hall, Mrs Ashton, added told the resident “I just want drugs” and tried to push his way into the house before he was chased off by another male.

Mrs Ashton added: “He was heard shouting at the house and Kyle Bethal who was upstairs and had known Hall for 15 years.

Hall then left the scene and smashed the windows of a Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Focus on Ethelstan Crescent.

Mrs Ashton said that Hall then went onto Charlton Avenue where he climbed through an open window of a ground floor flat and was confronted by the frightened owner.

“She thought it was her partner only to find the defendant in her premises,” said Mrs Ashton.

“He made his way into the garden and took a child’s bike which he later discarded on his way.”

Hall, the court heard, denied that this part of the proceedings had happened.

Police officers came across Hall at 7.45am making his way to a school and climbing on a flat roof next to the main roof of the site.

He was sitting on the roof and being aggressive, shouting at officers who were trying to get him to calm down, Mrs Ashton said.

She added: “He then took off his trainers and threw them across the roof, picking up the roof tiles and sliding them down the roof slope.

“He was seen picking up vents and foil piping which was also thrown.”

Hall was then seen consuming something from his bag before climbing down a ladder at 12pm when he was arrested.

His bag contained a white powder which when tested proved to be a class B drug.

A probation service report stated that Hall was going through a psychotic episode and wasn’t being medicated for his mental health at the time.

The report stated: “He has since been seen and prescribed medication after taking himself to the GP following the offence.

“In the past he owned a double glazing business and wants to start that again.”

In mitigation Hall said: “At the time I was in a bad place and now I’m working I want to stay on track.

“I feel positive and have made a lot of changes in myself.

“I very vaguely remember the incident although it’s not clear and I’m not taking drugs anymore,” he went on to say.

Hereford Magistrates ordered Hall to complete a 15-day activity requirement.

This includes mental health sessions, and 80 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £2,000 compensation to the school, £350 to the Vauxhall Corsa owner and £165 to the Ford Focus owner.
