A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital after being trapped in her car for 90 minutes following a four-car crash near Droitwich.

Three people have been hurt in the "serious" car crash which took place just after 8.30am this morning (Tuesday) on Kidderminster Road, Hampton Lovett.

The road has been closed both ways between Roman Way, Droitwich, and Doverdale Lane, Hampton Lovett.

The emergency services, including the Midlands Air Ambulance, West Midlands Ambulance Service, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) and West Merica Police, all rushed to the scene.

The trapped woman, who is in her 50s, was cut free from her car by the fire service and treated by paramedics for a suspected fractured right leg.

She was then airlifted to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

A spokesperson for WMAS said: "Crews arrived to find four cars that had been in collision, two of which had suffered substantial damage.

"The driver of one of those cars, a woman in her 50s, was trapped as a result of the damage.

"After ambulance crews assessed her, they worked closely with the fire service to carefully cut her free, a process which involved cutting the roof from her car.

"She was treated for a suspected fractured right leg, immobilised and given pain relief before being airlifted to Worcester Royal Hospital."

The driver of a second badly damaged car, a man thought to be in his 60s, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and shock.

A third driver, a man thought to be in his 20s, suffered a back injury but was able to released himself from his car.

The two injured men were rushed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by land ambulance.

The driver of the fourth car was uninjured.

Two ambulances, one paramedic area support officer and the air ambulance are at the scene, along with two rescue pumps from fire stations in Droitwich and Kidderminster.

Police officers are currently directing traffic, and drivers are being warned to find an alternative route.

It is thought the road will be closed for another hour while emergency services clear the carriageway.

Dan Quinn, group commander at HWFRS, tweeted to say: "Serious RTC on the A442 at Hampton Lovett. Please avoid the area. @HWFire @WMerciaPolice @OFFICIALWMAS in attendance "
