FIREFIGHTERS released a casualty trapped in a vehicle following a crash in Bromyard Road, Worcester, on Tuesday afternoon.

The road was blocked for a period due to the crash, that involved two vehicles, a red Mercedes E220 and a blue Volvo XC60, with one of them going into a lamp post.

Three fire crews were sent out to incident at around 6.30pm, as well as the ambulance service and the police who attended to control traffic in the area.

One person, who was severely trapped, was released from the vehicle by firefighters using extrication equipment.

Two patients, including a man in his 40s who was the driver of the Volvo, were taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with minor injuries.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area while highways officers, also in attendance, cleared the carriageway.

Readers sent us dramatic images of the aftermath of the crash, which showed the Mercedes was left resting on the side of the Volvo, and both vehicles were heavily damaged.

West Mercia Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call police on 101, quoting incident number 0600S.
