TWO well-known Black Country Alans are teaming up for a terrifying Halloween storytelling evening at Stourbridge’s Bonded Warehouse this weekend.

Stourbridge actor Alan Birch, popular for his role in David Tristram’s Inspector Drake comedy films, will be appearing as ‘The Librarian’ to read two ghost stories by Kinver author A.G Smith, real name Alan Smith, during An Evening of Delectable Terror which is taking place at the historic canalside venue on Sunday October 30.

Alan, who has been treading the boards with various theatre groups since he was a teenager, said: “Ghost stories have an edge that many horror novels and films just can’t capture.

“I have been a lifelong fan of these stories and have enjoyed various theatre productions of famous ghost stories.

“What excites me the most about bringing A.G Smith’s work to the stage is the fact that the audience has no preconceptions of these tales. They really will be unprepared for just how scary they are.”

A.G. Smith, who met acting Alan on the set of the first Inspector Drake movie, said: “We both share a passion for horror and the idea of Alan reinterpreting my stories is incredibly exciting. He is a very talented actor and this is going to be a really entertaining and truly terrifying event.”

The author has been writing stories since he was a child and his fantasy fiction novels - Harvester of the Now - have won praise from bestselling authors Anthony Horowitz and G.P Taylor.

His work with prisoners has seen him appear on Channel Four’s Secret Millionaire TV show and on BBC Radio Four’s PM programme. He has also toured the Black Country performing readings of his ghost stories since 2011.

Tickets for the spine-tingling storytelling session, which starts at 7.30pm on Sunday, have almost sold out but a few remain.

If the evening proves a real treat for horror fans the Alans hope to stage further events next year.
