A CHRISTMAS crazy couple brightened up the Clent Hills when they corralled their friends to dress their dogs up as elves.

Hairdressers Kriss Gallagher and Nicola Salt, from Halesowen, wandered over Clent with their dogs last year dressed as elves and had such a positive reaction decided to invite game-for-a-laugh dog walkers to do same on Sunday, December 4.

Over "100 elves and 150 elf-dogs" turned up for the festive walk and raised £700 for Wonky Pets Rescue which gives a home to animals with physical, medical or psychological problems.

Mr Gallagher, who runs Hair'em Scare'em salon, Hagley Road, said: "We could not believe how many people turned up, it was was an amazing sight seeing so many walkers dressed as elves and their dogs too.

"I'd like to give a massive thank you to everyone who made our first "official" elf and dog walk a success, everyone had such a wonderful time they are already asking about doing it next year when even more people will turn up."

"We managed to raise a massive £700 for Wonky Pets Rescue and people are still dropping donations into the salon."

The charity, which was established in 2012, looks after "unrehomable" pets for the remainder of their life in foster homes as well as rehoming animals to loving homes.

The 48-year-old said: "I've got three wonky dogs, one from a broken home, one from Romania and another from the streets of Birmingham so I know how much the charity needs money for vets bills and everything else which comes with caring for animals."

At the end of the Clent Hills walk the participants were treated to homemade muffins, prizes were awarded for the best costumes with plenty of "s-elfies" being taken.

Karen Henson, who won best dressed elf, said: "The elf walk was brilliant and I enjoyed every minute.

"I do not want to wait a whole year for the next one so maybe a Summer Solstice on June 25 could be in order?"
