PLANS to build an Early Years cabin at Blackwell First School have been approved by county planners to address the shortage of nursery places in and around Bromsgrove.

Worcestershire County Council sought permission to build the single storey building, which will provide up to 16 nursery places and two staff jobs, at a planning meeting at County Hall on Tuesday.

The proposed construction would provide a nursery cabin and a Forest School boot room at the St Catherine's Road school.

The building would include a teaching space, small kitchen area, two internal toilets, an external toilet and a room for children to put on coats and boots before using the Forest School site.

The council received one letter of objection from a neighbour of the school, stating that residents had already been subjected to constant construction work during the recently-completed three classroom extension.

The neighbour stated that the security lights around the new extension were already making it difficult for residents to sleep, and that the proposal would make this worse.

Council chairman Robert Adams confirmed this issue was being pursued by the council and committee members voted unanimously to approve the proposal.

A condition was agreed that construction works should only be carried out between 8am and 6pm on Mondays to Fridays and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.
