A TANTALISING festival of locomotives large and small will mark the start of the Severn Valley Railway's steams events season as the Spring Steam Gala arrives.

A great event for all the family, the Gala features a starring line-up of visiting locomotives, supported by members of the SVR home fleet, between Friday, March 17, and Sunday, March 19.

Passengers can experience a slice of railway history, getting up close to an array of exciting steam locomotives and climbing into a comfy carriage for a journey back in time.

Making star appearances this year, visiting locomotives include LMS Ivatt 2 No. 41312 - making its first visit to the SVR in 16 years - SR Battle of Britain No. 34081 92 Squadron and BR Standard 9F No. 92214 - one of the most powerful locomotives in Britain.

The selection of visiting locomotives will be supported by members of the Railway's home fleet, including No. 7802 Bradley Manor, No. 7812 Erlestoke Manor, No. 34027 Taw Valley, No. 34053 Sir Keith Park and No. 43106.

Visitors will be able to take exciting steam train rides throughout the event, enjoy brake van rides, get on board evening services and visit the beer tent at Bewdley.

Those wanting to make a real day of it can book themselves on to the VIP Breakfast Package at the Engine House - all new for 2017. The SVR's famous 'full works breakfast' will be served up to tables overlooking the Railway and river. The experience is completed with exclusive, full-day access to the viewing balcony, where visitors can watch the intensive service of trains steam by.
