MEMBERS of a youth group baked cakes for Red Nose Day after they were suspended from youth sessions due to riotous behaviour.

The sessions held at the Green Hub, in Gresham Road, Dines Green, Worcester, were temporarily cancelled after members let off a fire extinguisher.

Youth workers also witnessed children throwing stones outside the centre, on Monday, March 13, and later found a smashed window.

However, this week members of the club made posters for the sale on Tuesday, baked cakes on Wednesday and delivered the posters on Thursday before the sale was held by Worcester Connect, a group for people with disabilities, yesterday.

They undertook the charity quest as Worcester Community Trust, which runs the youth sessions, started holding four evening focus groups every week in Dines Green.

Alice Byrne, lead youth worker at the Green Hub, aged 27, said: "Sadly some young people in all areas - not just Dines Green - have lots of stuff they are going through and dealing with.

"We have had a change around. We started focus groups this week.

"Our youth club made cakes which were donated to the sale at DG Den Community Cafe and made posters to advertise the event.

"This shows that by coming together as a youth group you can overcome these difficulties.

"We have decided to up the sessions and provide more support to show we are not abandoning them."

The youth worker added they might not hold open access sessions again and said that members had to sign up for the focus group activities.

She added the groups may replace the youth sessions and said they have had a good week in terms of anti-social behaviour.

Worcester Connect baked the majority of the cakes for the sale which raised around £11.

The money will go to Comic Relief to help the needy in the UK and across Africa.
