A FIVE-A-SIDE football tournament was held at South Bromsgrove High School to raise money for elderly residents at a Bromsgrove care home.

St John's Court healthcare assistant Lisa Dews came up with the idea to fund the home's new dementia suite, while local businesses donated prizes.

On April 22, 12 amateur teams battled it out for top place, but 'Pop Chips' stole the winning trophy on the day, donated by Bromsgrove and Redditch Trophies.

Bromsgrove Cobbler engraved a football boot trophy for the top scorer and The Golden Lion pub hosted a barbecue and raffle after the match.

Manager of St John's Court Laura Wilkes said: "Everyone worked hard to ensure it was well organised and professional and everyone who attended had a fantastic day.

"There were so many people, too many to mention, who gave up their time to make this event the success it was – you know who you are, so thank you from us all at St John’s Court.

"The event has raised £1275.27 which is absolutely fantastic and we can’t begin to thank everyone enough for all their hard work, donations and support.

"This money will help us to develop our new project of developing our dementia suite to make it a calm and relaxing area."

Laura hopes to make the tournament and annual event.
