PEOPLE in Wyre Forest who are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes are now able to access help and support to reduce the likelihood of them developing them the condition.

NHS Wyre Forest Clinical Commissioning Group is working with Pulse Healthcare to provide the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme locally.

Patients will be able to access the programme via referral from GP - this may be a patient that has already been highlighted as at risk of developing diabetes or a patient who is newly diagnosed.

Patients recruited onto the new programme tackling Type 2 diabetes will benefit from Pulse Healthcare's services to help them make healthier lifestyle choices and improve their health.

The programme is focussed on encouraging people to lower their weight, increase their amount of physical activity and improve their diet.

Dr Nikki Burger, lead GP for the programme in Worcestershire, said: "We are really pleased that this important public health programme is available in Wyre Forest and we look forward to helping patients at risk of developing type 2 diabetes make healthier choices about how they exercise and what they eat.

"Like most areas of the country we are seeing an increase in new diagnoses driven by a number of lifestyle factors.

"We need to do all we can to reverse this trend and this is a big priority across the county."
