WYRE Forest fundraisers were treated to a celebration lunch in London after helping raise more than £42 million nationally for Cancer Research UK last year.

The total raised by the local committees collectively is a vital source of funding for research into cures and treatments for a wide range of cancers.

The Wyre Forest Committee recently announced it had smashed the £750,000 threshold raised over 45 years after adding £30,000 to the total in the last financial year.

Its treasurer David Smith, who has served on the committee for 26 years and vice chairman Mike Griffiths, who joined 15 years ago, attended the lunch, hosted by Ed Aspel the charity’s executive director of fundraising and marketing, at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

Mr Smith said: “We in Wyre Forest are a small, but dedicated group, and it was good to see the efforts of volunteers and supporters recognised.”
