A GUIDE has been produced to help students and visitors with disabilities.

The University of Worcester's student services and facilities department has worked with DisabledGo to provide access guides to its buildings.

National organisation DisabledGo has now given the university a plaque as a mark of accreditation for their work.

Caryn Thorogood, head of student services, said: “The guides highlight the University’s long term commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where students can reach their full potential.”

DisabledGo works across all sectors, including with 64 universities, to inform disabled people of what is provided for them at particular venues.

The DisabledGo guides provide information such as the location of accessible parking spaces, physical building access, lighting levels and provision of induction loops to help a disabled person plan visits and travel between campuses.

DisabledGo executive director, Anna Nelson, said: “We are delighted to be working with the University of Worcester, who are leading the way in the region.

"The University has a clear commitment to equality of access and opportunity and we feel the detailed accessibility guides we have produced for 33 buildings make an important contribution, enabling people to check facilities in advance so they can have the best possible experience and education.”

Nationally, guides produced by DisabledGo were viewed more than two million times in 2016.

The guides are now available on the University website worc.ac.uk/discover/find-us.html and through DisabledGo’s website disabledgo.com/organisations/university-of-worcester.
