A HUSBAND and wife from Bromsgrove raised an incredible £5,868 for charity by completing the Three Peaks Challenge, with a little help from their friends.

Kerry Walker, 39, and husband 40-year-old David, decided to scale the highest mountains of England, Scotland, and Wales in 28 hours for charities close to their heart.

David's employers Bondeye Optical donated to the cause and Kerry’s work colleagues at Quattro Pensions, in Redditch, offered their support by joining them on the trek across June 23 and 24.

Mrs Walker said: “It all came about as my mom has got Parkinson’s and my husband’s mom has got motor neurone disease.

“When we decided to do it both mine and my husband’s work got involved to help and that ended up in a group of 11 of us taking part. It meant a lot to have them join us.

“One of my colleagues is having chemotherapy this year as well so we also raised money for cancer research.

“It was really challenging. We made our first climb up Ben Nevis on Friday and then Scafell Pike and then finished at Snowdon on Saturday evening.

“We have raised about £6,000 so far which is fantastic but want to raise even more.”

The team of 11 comprised of fundraisers from across the region, including Redditch duo Matt Lindsey and Luke Evans, Jake Hubbard from Alvechurch, Thomas Longe from Wythall, Jo Cummings from Upton, Verity Pedley from Worcester, Mark Frost from Malvern, Andrew Cooper from Shirley, and Andrew Brittle from Wolverhampton.

All of the money will be split between Parkinson's, MND, Breast Cancer Now, and Macular Society.
