A MAN who smashed into a car parked outside a Kidderminster house and stole a handbag has been jailed.

Birmingham man Nicholas Steven Walker, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to two offences – theft in dwelling and theft from a motor vehicle – when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on July 13.

The charges relate to incidents that took place within a week in May. Between 6.20pm and 7.11pm on Monday, May 29, a Vauxhall Astra had been parked outside a house in The Foxholes in Kidderminster.

CCTV footage captured 35-year-old Walker forcing entry by smashing the windows and taking the handbag from within.

Further CCTV footage from a shop show two others offenders, from Kidderminster, using a stolen bank card taken with the bag. Michael Coffey, aged 46, of Avon Road, Kidderminster and 29-year-old Cary Davies, also of Avon Road, were both sentenced to eight weeks in prison.

Previous to this, on Tuesday May 23, Walker was accused of stealing clothing from a house and selling it on to a second hand shop.

Walker pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 24 weeks imprisonment.

Detective Sergeant Martin Brown, of West Mercia Police, said: "I am very pleased that the offender has been identified and has been sentenced accordingly.

"We do not tolerate any kind of theft across our force, and when it does happen, we will ensure that we take every step to bring the person in question to justice.

“When an offender is released from prison they are supervised by the Probation Service and we work together to prevent further offending."
