AIR cadets have spent £1,500 on upgrading their ageing flight simulator equipment.

The 1017 Malvern Squadron Air Training Corps has bought two new computers, screens and a controller.

Malvern Town Council contributed £750 towards the upgrade and praised the cadets as a valuable organisation.

Alex Hall, flying officer for the squadron, said: "The old PCs can't run the software [Microsoft Flight Simulator 10]. There was a lot of lag.

"We are getting two PCs and doing it properly. They are arriving pretty soon. We have scouted around for the cheapest gaming PCs.

"We also make sure we have decent controls. Not just a cheap joystick. "

Mr Hall, aged 42, said they have also invested in a Saitek Pro Flight controller and two 27-inch display screens.

Cllr Hannah Campbell said: "I was in the air cadets. Cadet organisations instil fantastic values... leadership, comradery, teamwork, discipline.

"I'm not in the RAF, it's not a recruiting organisation. I think it's important that we continue to support them in their work."

The air cadets used money they raised at Busfest to match the council's contribution towards new equipment.
