PROUD scouts and guides basked in the sun and marched through Kidderminster for the annual St George’s Day Parade.

Town centre streets were lined with onlookers as thousands of beavers, cubs, scouts, explorer scouts, rainbows, brownies and guides, along with marching bands took part in the celebration on Sunday (April 22).

The parade was led by the KD7 (Comberton) Group with the Shirley Pipe Band, Kings Norton Youth Marching Band and Halesowen Scout Band.

Rolling road closures were put in place as they travelled from New Road and through the town centre before making their way back.

Services were held at Baxter, St George’s and St Mary’s churches while collections were held for charities.

A host of dignitaries attended the event including Mayor Nicky Gale, Deputy Mayor Martin Stooke, scouts’ district commissioner Julie Goodyear and Kidderminster Scouts’ president John Beard, as well as Councillors Fran Oborski and Mary Rayner.

Kidderminster Scouts chairman Marcus Hart said: “We had yet another fantastic St George's Day Parade with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides, together with leaders.

“It was a great turnout and nice to see so many people lining the route. We were very lucky with the weather.

“We must thank the Mayor of Kidderminster Nicky Gale, district council chairman Cllr David Little and other dignitaries for attending and SARA and all the marshals for making the parade safe and possible."
