SPORTY youngsters and staff from a Kidderminster school smashed a previous fundraising effort during a week of charity activities.

Baxter College has counted up sponsorship from their Sport Relief effort and raised an impressive £2,339.58 – with more donations still to come in!

This beat their previous effort in 2016 when they raised around £1,500.

During the event last month, every student from years seven to 11 took part in long distance runs and high intensity exercises to raise the cash.

The most impressive challenge however came when 10 teams of students along with a member of staff each completed a 24-hour cycle challenge in the school gym.

Each team had one bike and the aim of the challenge was to keep the pedals turning. To do this, students split themselves into 20-minute shifts and kept going from 9am one morning, straight through to 9am the next.

The school was supported by a host of businesses who donated food and drinks to help everyone keep going. These businesses were A J Diner, Morrison’s, Costa Coffee, Coffee 1, Pizza Hut, Sandwich Express, Gourmets, Oxford Café, Lucy’s coffee shop, Kitty’s Kitchen, Faded to Fabulous, Tenny Fryer and Papa Johns.

Alison Common, from Baxter College, said: “This is an unbelievable amount of money, so I would like to say a massive well done to all the students who took part in the activities throughout the week, and a thank you to all the staff, students, and parents who supported everyone at Baxter College throughout the week.

“I would also like to give a special mention to Emma Morris from year 8 who managed to raise £546.61!!! An astonishing amount of money to raise. Well done Emma!”
