A PLAN for 40 new homes in Willersey has been submitted to Cotswold District Council.

The application, which is for land close to Collin Lane is now in a consultation period, with comments accepted by the council until Thursday January 18.

A total of 80 car parking spaces would be provided as part of the development.

Willersey Parish Council has called for no new homes to be build in the area.

A joint statement by councillors said: "This issue was given full attention and was thoroughly discussed.

"It was unanimously agreed that, following the public meetings that resolved that no more houses should be built in Willersey, WPC remained committed to upholding the wishes of the villagers.

"Therefore WPC remains unanimously against any further development in the village.

"The timescale is not able to assimilate the number of dwellings applied for, this would amount to a growth of 30% in a 2-3 year window.

"The increased heavy traffic access through the village would be intolerable.

"Collin Lane is now unsuitable for the current volume of traffic and concerns have been raised on the subject of the suitability of the bridge to support the increasing volume of traffic.

"WPC wish to explore the option of introducing traffic lights for the bridge and also the possibility of strengthening the bridge.

"The local amenities and services are already stretched to breaking point now, further demands on them would be disastrous.

"It is the considered opinion of WPC that this application should be turned down."
