A COUNTY charity helped young people in Kington gain a level two food hygiene certificate.

Hope Support Services, a Ross-on-Wye charity that helps young people who have been affected by a family member being diagnosed with a life-changing illness, joined forces with chef Geoff Tookey, from Safefood Solutions, for a training day at the Swan Tea Rooms in Kington.

"The young people have been really keen to learn new skills that they can apply at home to help their parents and siblings who are going through a difficult time," said Sammy Jay Powell, Hope's youth development officer.

"And, of course, it's a great qualification to have on their CV when it comes to getting part-time work."

Meanwhile, Mr Tookey will be attending a "can cook, will cook" show at the Royal Hotel in Ross on Sunday, with proceeds going towards Hope.

Top chefs from the British Culinary Federation will also be providing live demonstrations, while the new Hope cider will be on display.

Tickets are £15 and can be purchased from the Royal Hotel or by calling 01989 565105.
