CRAVEN Arms has been without a bonfire and firework display event for the last 25 years.

This year, Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, run by local charity Grow Cook Learn, reinstated the event in the Onny Meadows.

Spectators enjoyed a bar and refreshments including hot dogs, braised beef baps and toffee apple muffins, laid on by the Centre’s award winning café. An impressive firework display lit up the sky and was greeted by families, children and adults of all ages.

Local schools and groups joined in the fun with a competition for the best “Guy” with Millmead Sheltered Housing coming in first.

Neville Stephens judged the competition which Diddlebury Primary School, Craven Arms Preschool and Yvonne and Karen’s Childcare also entered and all were awarded with certificates for their placings.

It is intended that the bonfire and fireworks evening will become an annual event every October or November.
