A KEEN runner will put on her best festive fancy dress for a fun run in aid of a hospice close to her heart.

Stacey Taylor, who grew up in Worcester, is set to run the St Richard’s Hospice Yuletide Jog at The Valley, Evesham on Sunday December 3.

Both the 36-year-old’s grandmother and mother, who lives in Kempsey, received care from the Worcester hospice following their cancer diagnoses – and she now hopes to raise money to support its services.

Mrs Taylor’s grandmother, Lillian Harris, had cancer and was cared for by St Richard’s until she died in February 2016.

Pauline Richardson, Mrs Taylor’s mother, was diagnosed with lung cancer and is receiving a range of hospice support – from advice to ensure her financial stability, to managing breathlessness and relaxation sessions.

Mrs Taylor, who lives in Gosport, Hampshire, said: “The care that all the staff gave not only my nan but the whole family was more than we could ever imagine. She was treated with nothing but respect to the end.

“My mum has also been helped considerably by the hospice. During 2016 a doctor referred mum to St Richard’s, where she was given help and support to be able to deal with her change of life.

“She has been able to spend time with others in the same situation, have some relaxation and even taken breathing classes to improve her day to day life. We could never thank the hospice and staff enough.”

After completing her first 10K run earlier this year, Mrs Taylor will take on the hospice’s 5K run with her friend Helen Tempest.

She will join a crowd of runners dressed as snowmen, Christmas puddings, reindeer and other festive characters to take on the 5K route.

Kelly Johns, Fundraiser, said: “We are grateful to Stacey for sharing her moving motivation behind taking part in our Yuletide Jog and we hope she enjoys the day.

“It will be a fantastic, fun event for all the family and we can’t wait to see everyone’s festive costumes.”

The morning of festive fun will begin from 9am, with the 5K jog starting at 10am.

Along the route, runners can fill their stockings with a variety of Christmas treats – and everyone will be awarded a medal for taking part.

Joggers can get creative with their fancy dress and there will be a prize for the best costume on the day.

There are still places available to join in the fun.
