A WITNESS has told of how he saw a seriously injured man gasping for air at the scene of a suspected murder.

Daniel Wheeler, aged 37, was walking his dogs when he spotted the man lying in the middle of Crookbarrow Road, in Norton, Worcester, last night.

Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

Mr Wheeler, of Norton, said: “I heard loud shouting. I saw a bloke flat out in the road. He was flat out on his back.

“His chest was going up and down and he was gasping for air but he was motionless.

“My first thing was to phone an ambulance. Cars had started to stop. There was other people assisting as well.

“A young kid stopped his car and was sat on the guy just trying to speak to him and relay information to me. The ambulance woman on the phone asked me if he was breathing.

“Initially it didn’t shake me up but last night I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about the guy.”

Mr Wheeler encountered the scene while walking his dogs after work.

Mr Wheeler, who moved to Norton in 2013, said: “Do you hear of murders in Worcester? You don’t really. Worcester is a nice area, I’m from Birmingham. I expect it in Birmingham but not in Worcester.”

The resident called the ambulance service at 11pm and said police officers arrived within five minutes, followed by paramedics at 11.10pm.
