THE garden at a Heart of England Mencap care facility is set for a overhaul thanks partly to the parent company of the Worcester News.

The Gannett Foundation has handed over a cheque for £2,860 to the Heart of England Mencap which runs the Ash Grove facility in Evesham.

The money will go towards gardening equipment for the facility after the garden has been spruced up.

Gavin Tippins, registered manager at Heart of England Mencap said: "I think it will help massively, we offer great care and support but it is the extra bits that are important, as we want it to be a home from home.

"A lot of people like to sit in the garden and enjoy themselves in the summer and we think it is important that our residents can do that as well."

The money will go towards a wheelchair swing, garden furniture, an iPad and a docking station.

The foundation this winter made grants totalling nearly £300,000 to charities up and down the country on behalf of Newsquest Media Group, one of the UK’s leading regional news publishers, which is owned by Gannett.
