YEAR 5 pupils from Hagley Catholic High School brought the house down as they joined with six other regional schools to perform a ‘Schools of Rock’ concert.

The school’s head of music, Fred Mallinson, has been visiting Year 5 pupils from six other schools over the past months to teach them an individual rock song each.

All schools then joined together at Birmingham Town Hall on February 15 to perform their song and explain the background to it.

Hits included You Really Got Me by The Kinks, and The Final Countdown by Europe, before all 300 pupils joined together as one for Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On A Prayer.

Mr Mallinson said: “I love working with all the pupils.

“I wanted to broaden our young singers’ musical tastes with some truly great songs.

“This event inspires and gives an amazing opportunity to be part of a professional rock show. This concert will remain with these students all their lives.

“Music is fun and this show had spadefuls of it.”

Schools taking part included St Ambrose’s Catholic Primary in Kidderminster, St Wulstan’s Catholic Primary in Stourport, and Our Lady And St Kenelem School in Halesowen.
