THE first ever Alcester Comedy Night has proved such a hit that it will now become a regular feature in the village.

Harvey Hawkins initially launched his comedy night at the Town Hall on Henley Street as a trial, to see how the event was perceived.

The opening night, on March 21, was a sell-out with 100 revellers packing out the venue.

Mr Hawkins, 26, said: "I couldn't have been happier with how the launch night went.

“The atmosphere in the room was fantastic and the most exciting thing is I know these nights will only keep getting better.

“We received such great comments from the audience and even had a queue of people at the end of the night waiting to sign up to the mailing list, which is the biggest sign that people enjoyed themselves.”

"I am very grateful to everyone that took a punt on the launch night and made it such a special night, it has enabled us to attract one of the best loved acts on the circuit to join us for the next one!"

The next Alcester Comedy Night will be held on June 6, with British comic Tom Binns – who co-wrote and starred in BBC sitcom Hospital People last year – already booked for the gig.

Harvey added: "I really can’t wait to bring Tom to Alcester where I know he will be absolutely loved.

“We have decided to do the event on a Wednesday again for a couple of reasons, firstly it is a nice way to break the week up whilst not interfering with weekend plans but mainly we just wouldn't be able to get acts of Tom's standard on a weekend as he will be playing much larger venues.

"I feel we are creating something really special for the town so do come down and enjoy a night of great value entertainment on the doorstep."

Tickets cost £10 from The Turks Head, Alcester, and ticketsource.co.uk/date/489260.
