The largest audience this year attended the Society’s November meeting to enjoy a feast of steam from the camera of Alan Price. Alan, who is the proprietor of On Track Productions, had journeyed from Skegness to show us two of the many DVDs in his catalogue.

Using some of the latest digital audio-visual equipment, our speaker showed ‘The North Briton’ for the first half of the evening. This spectacular DVD covered the five-day railtour from London to Kyle of Lochalsh, using Bittern, Duke of Gloucester, Union of South Africa and 45407. The superb photography was greatly appreciated by Alan’s audience.

After the break we viewed ‘The Coronation Pacifics – Stanier’s Duchesses’. This contained rare archive cine footage, including the streamlined locomotives, as well of shots of the preserved Duchess of Sutherland and Duchess of Hamilton in action on the main line and heritage railways. Even die-hard GWR enthusiasts admitted to having admired the spectacular sequences in this programme.

The Society next meets on Monday 7th December. Visitors are invited to bring some of their own slides, photographs or artefacts and to enjoy the buffet, included in the normal admission.

All meetings start at 7.30 at the Birchley Social Club, Brunel Road, Oldbury: everyone is welcome and no membership is required. For further information, contact George Richards (0121 559 4888), Alan Shenton (0121 559 3200) or Alan Atkinson (01562 886549).
