DOZENS of shoppers backed a Wyre Forest group’s campaign to call on the government to stop the cull of badgers.

Wyre Forest Vegans and Veggies set up a stall in Kidderminster town centre on Saturday, September 10, to garner support.

People were asked to sign postcards that will be sent to Whitehall urging an end to the killing of the badgers while the group also gave out information about veganism.

Ronald Lee, the group's Communications Officer, said: "We were delighted at the very positive response from the public and the many dozens of people who signed to stop the cull.

"This was further evidence of the great love that people in this country have for badgers and the very strong opposition to the killing of these animals.

"It has been revealed that a large number of the badgers already shot did not die immediately and underwent considerable suffering.

"The government states that the reason for the badger cull is to prevent the spread of TB in cattle, but there is a very large amount of evidence that it will not be effective in doing this and could well make the problem worse.
