SOCCER stars are throwing their weight behind a safety campaign to stop youngsters being injured in quarries across the two counties.
England and Portsmouth goalkeeper David James is among those helping with a new drive to prevent needless deaths and injuries in the counties’ 13 quarries.
The national Stay Safe campaign has been launched by the MPA (Minerals Products Association) this month ahead of the summer, when teenagers and children are often attracted to the dangerous industrial sites.
Mr James warned: "Quarries are places for work and not play, and can hold hidden dangers if you go there unsupervised.
“Quarry lakes are often very cold as well as deep, and have currents that can drag you under the water in seconds.
"Please Stay Safe this summer and stay out of quarries - use a local swimming pool, leisure centre or recreation ground instead."
