VOLUNTEERS who braved recent snow and ice are to be honoured for their efforts today.
Members of Worcestershire’s County Volunteers Emergency Committee (CVEC) tackled the hazardous conditions to help critical services, such as county council social care and homecare and hospital and district nursing.
The county council’s social care staff were able to make more than 30,000 home visits during the cold snap thanks to voluntary agencies, including the CVEC.
Chairman of Worcestershire County Council, Conservative councillor, John Cairns, praised the efforts of the volunteers.
He said: “They made a huge contribution to our work through the worst of the weather and their efforts helped some of the most vulnerable people in our community.”
He added: “The exceptional efforts of our staff were reflected in the dedication and commitment of the volunteers and every one of them deserves our county’s thanks.”
The Red Cross will host today’s ceremony at its Worcester base. It will receive a certificate alongside Age Concern, St John Ambulance, Gloucester and Worcestershire 4x4 response and the Land Rover experience centre at Eastnor.
Representatives from the county council and Worcestershire’s health services will present the volunteers with certificates of commendation.
