Why does it seem that we read in your newspaper and others on a seemingly regular basis the exploits of councillors representing the Hayley Green and Cradley South ward.

Towards the end of last year we read the news reguarding Ray Burston, a person who I have always respected as a good ward councillor.

Then there is the constant flow of reports referring to “The Turners”. Headlines such as in your paper on December 9th. 2010, “Outrage over racist e-mail”, claiming that councillor Ken Turner is out in the cold after e-mailing a racist joke to every Dudley councillor.

This was followed early in February 2011 in the Express and Star with “Councillor found guilty over racist joke”, telling us that he had been found guilty of breaching the councils code of conduct.

Then we read in December 2013, that councillors Ken and Hazel Turner had quit the Conservative party” amid accusations of bullying, the Hayley Green and Cradley South husband and wife team resigned before a disciplinary hearing against Ken Turner could be held.

Now we read the latest saga, your paper tells us, “the Turners follow son’s lead and join UKIP”, along with the customary photo of the Turners alongside UKIP leader Nigel Farage, we are told Halesowen councillors Ken and Hazel Turner have joined UKIP – handing the party two seats on Dudley Council.

I would think the Halesowen and Rowley Regis Conservative Association are breathing a sigh of relief to be rid of the pair and wonder if UKIP,s leader is aware of what he has taken on.
