We have more charity shops than banks in the Black Country and when one closes down another one opens.
The elderly rely on these shops as somewhere to go.
Some are too old to work or can’t find work because they are in that age bracket, where employers are not interested and now they are facing the same alienation by progress.
Did anyone watch Mary Queen of charity shops? A very misguided and unrealistic view.
Her so called innovative ideas are nothing that has not been done by nearly all charity shop managers but without her celebrity contacts, tv and media coverage and having the staff and time to pull it off.
There are no funds to make the shops disabled friendly let alone 15k for refurbishment to turn it into a trendy boutique.
Their answer is to pack up the shops with new goods which are tacky and sold at ridiculously high prices or forcing staff to sell raffle tickets to a public that are more interested in spending their £1 on a bargain.
Charity shops play an important part in the community more so in the Black Country, so support your local shop and put pen to paper and send all your complaints to head Office and spare a thought for the managers.
