I would like to know why charity shops that rely on the elderly and disabled to volunteer, expect us to work in conditions that are not disabled friendly?
I volunteered in a charity shop in Halesowen for months and there was no ramp outside but a step making access to the shop, difficult especially for wheelchair users.
A smashed firedoor and stairs that were so steep that once you had managed to manoeuvre them, you were there for the duration.
If you are using the till, you are not supposed to sit down or have drinks on the shop floor even though the kitchen is upstairs. They cover themselves by completing a risk assessment but nothing reported is ever done.
So if you are thinking of volunteering I would think twice.
The shop in question, you know who you are.
