Pupils’ safety is at risk

Re: Parking at Huntingtree Primary School Every morning whilst walking my child to school, I fear that a child will be injured due to the inconsiderate parking by parents.

Huntingtree Road is busy all day, every day, but parents are consistently:- double parking, causing congestion on the main road.

Leaving vehicles parked over areas where the kerb has been dropped, meaning parents with pushchairs are having to walk on the road.

Park so close, and actually on the junction of the Longcroft, that it is almost impossible to cross the road safely.

Parents also find it necessary to complete u-turns in the junction of The Longcroft, whilst parents and children are trying to cross the road. They also park over the zig zag lines near to the crossing.

I would imagine the residents of Bournes Hill feel the same way.

I have previously emailed councillor Ken Turner about this matter but he did not respond. I was very disappointed by his lack of response, as he only lives a short distance from the school and can see the problems occurring everyday.

The school do request parents are considerate with parking and some have no other option but to drive their children to school but most requests fall on deaf ears.

I feel this matter requires the attention of the police. If they were to visit the area at 8.415am and 3pm they would see how bad this has become.

I totally agree with you. The way people park is ridiculous.

A relative of mine does the school crossing at Huntingtree and has to take her life into her own hands crossing the children and their parents.

The parking is also terrible for St Kenelms.

Highfield Lane is also a very busy road in a morning and I just cannot beleive how people park. Trying to pull out of Wall Well in a morning is like a death wish. You just cannot see what is coming.

I was nearly involved in an accident last week whereby I was driving up the lower part of Wall Well onto Highfield Lane and some idiot decided she wanted to turn around behind me rather than do the obvious thing and continue to the island. I was stuck in the middle of the road.....

I totally understand that some parents have to drive their children to school but I can imagine that there is a large majority who live within walking distance to both schools and are too lazy to walk.

More double yellows and pedestrian crossings are much needed on both Huntingtree Road and Highfield Lane.
