Not in my name...

Last week, I was at a Churches Together in Halesowen meeting on, "As we forgive ... " (a quote from the Bible).

At exactly the same time our friend and ally, Israel, using our (US/UK and the West) manufactured rockets and weapons were in the process of killing 120 Palestinians, mostly men, women and children who were not fighters.

This was in punishment (or revenge) for one Israeli civilian and two Israeli soldiers that the Palestinians had killed with their rockets, according to BBC Radio 4 news.

Therefore, should I, should we not be asking for the Palestinians to forgive us?

Am I the only one feeling guilty for what is being done in our name and with our taxes?

Tim Weller, Halesowen

Get it right, Tim. Israel has suffered months of indiscriminate rocket attacks by Hamas terrorists against its towns and villages. Women and children are dying because Hamas deliberately uses Palestinian civilians as human shields against any kind of retaliation by the IDF. However, I can forgive you, Tim... after all, your "according to the BBC" remark kind of explains your ignorance of what is really happening in Gaza. Meanwhile, it is to be hoped that any right thinking person should applaud Israel for its restraint in the face of this most extreme provocation.

Incidentally, didn't Israel voluntarily withdraw all its troops from Gaza in 2003 - forcibly dismantling Jewish settlements in the process - precisely in the hope that this might help the Middle East peace process along? Alas, yet another bold offer of 'land for peace' that has been thrown back in Israel's face by fanatics who will not rest until every last Jew in Palestine has been wiped off the face of the Earth.
Are you sure these the kind of people you want to be grovelling to for forgiveness, Tim?

Israel has been persecuted for years by palestinians so don't start that anti Israel crap with us. they are lucky israel hasn't wiped them off the face of the earth together with hamas who were saved by the UN and USA sanctions.

Oh dear Tim, a bit one sided eh? You condemn those who allegedly arm Israel to respond to a terrorist attack, but not those who arm the Palestinian terrorists! Shouldn't you be condemning those in the UK who put money in the box to which goes to keep Hamas etc in guns and rockets. Or are you one of these yourselves? Perhaps it doesn't matter if those nasty Jews get wiped out? Maybe its people like you who need forgiveness from the victims of terrorist bombings of schools and marketplaces?
