Youth centre is something to be proud of
As a former Halesowen councillor and chairperson of Halesowen Area Committee, I was delighted to read that Halesowen Youth Centre is going from strength to strength.
Having re-opened after undergoing a major revamp, this is a real story of survival and success.
As a former councillor, I well remember the threats of closure to Halesowen Youth Centre, in 1991 and 1993.
Youngsters then, and representations made by myself on their behalf, at the Council House kept the youth centre open - thank goodness!
Today's youngsters' efforts deserve applauding, in their successful bids in raising £9,000 from Halesowen Area Committee and the Youth Opportunities Fund. It is great news to learn of all the new and improved facilities for young people.
It would seem that Halesowen Youth Centre is something that other areas would aspire to for their young people.
Long may it last!
Richard Lloyd,
Former councillor Belle Vale, Halesowen

Fancy that - two letters in as many weeks. You wouldn't perchance be standing for election this year, would you Richard?
