BALLET fans in the Black Country are being given the chance to see the award-winning Royal Ballet's perform Romeo and Juliet.

On Tuesday, September 22, Showcase Cinema in Dudley is screening a live broadcast of Shakespeare's iconic tragedy from London’s iconic Royal Opera House.

The Royal Ballet is performing Kenneth Macmillan’s version of the romantic tragedy, set to Sergei Prokofiev’s much-loved score.

This 20th century classic is as moving today as it was when Macmillan first premiered it 50 years ago.

In Verona, the rivalry between two houses, the Capulets and the Montagues, brings bloodshed to the city.

When Romeo attends the Capulets’ masked ball in disguise, he and Juliet fall madly in love, but tragedy prevails when the star crossed lovers realise they belong to rival families.

Mark Barlow, Showcase Cinemas general manager, said: “For fans who aren’t able to travel to the Royal Opera House, this is the perfect opportunity to experience this incredible show from the comfort of their local Showcase Cinema.

"Whatever the occasion, Romeo and Juliet will be a great night out."

He added: "Shown on state-of-the-art screens with surround sound, fans will experience the show from the best seat in the house."

The live screening starts at 7pm on Tuesday, September 22 and tickets are now available from the cinema box office or www.showcasecinemas.co.uk.
