REVIEW: It’s so hard to leave stylish country hotel

WHEN the door was opened to the room I would be staying in at the Menzies Welcombe Hotel Spa and Golf Club I knew I wouldn’t want to leave after one night.

Luxurious, spacious, elegant and stylish, were just some of the words that sprang to mind when I entered the twin room.

Set in 157 acres of stunning parkland, the Stratford-upon-Avon hotel, built in 1866, gives its guests the chance to experience traditional charm with its oak panelled lounge, that has comfy sofas and an open fireplace which make you feel right at home.

Once I had unpacked, I was whisked away for a golf lesson on the hotel’s 18-hole, par 70 championship golf course. As a novice, I was kept away from the pros and my lesson was just outside the golf clubhouse. I was taught basic skills and techniques and surprised myself by getting more hits than misses.

After the lesson, it was time to unwind at the hotel’s luxury spa, which is the ultimate in relaxation and the perfect place to recharge your batteries.

Armed with a selection of glossy magazines, I took advantage of the impressive amenities, which include a level deck swimming pool, external vitality pool, heated loungers and foot spas.

It also boasts thermal experience rooms, a selection of treatment rooms, a gymnasium, aerobics studio and all weather floodlit tennis courts.

I had a facial which revitalised my skin and left the spa feeling totally indulged, just in time for dinner.

Dinner was served in the two AA rosette a la carte restaurant overlooking the beautiful Italian gardens and water features, with magnificent views across the countryside. It is the perfect place for an after dinner stroll.

The delicious menu featured both British and European dishes and once I had digested my meal of risotto and marinaded breast of corn fed chicken, I headed to the cocktail bar for a few drinks.

This beautiful hotel, with its lovely gardens, spa and antique furnishings is the perfect place for a getaway.
